Weight loss challenge day 2

Yesterday I went for the second fitness session at Southend Hospital. Worked a lot harder than last week. I used the exercise bikes (can’t get on with the treadmills… ) as well as the stretching and floor exercises. I also managed all the exercises using the thera-band. After the guided session I took 10 minutes on the exercise bike again and used some weights working the upper body.

It felt like I had done a good workout, and actually pushed myself as much as I could.

Dietwise I am now only uising a small sugar in coffee and tea, and am trying to cut down on bread eaten. Am keeping the water intake high, and have never in my life needed to go to the bathroom this often. All good I assume.

I think I’m on course to achieve my goal for the first week, but as we have no scales at home I will wait till next monday.

My dad has joined the challenge and his goals are the same as mine. A bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone.

Weight loss challenge day 1

Ok, as from today the challenge is on. I will be updating you every day with my progress and also give you the facts in full.

Went to Boots yesterday to get weighed. Although I was lighter than expected it was still too much.

Starting weight : 97.5 kg / 15st 5lb

Ideal weight : between 55 kg and 74 kg

Target week 1 (31st June – 6th July) : Loose at least 0.5 kg or 1lb

The weightloss must be achieved through a combination of diet and exercise. I have so far cut my sugar intake by two thirds. No sugar on breakfast cereal and only 1 sugar in tea or coffee. The amounts of food used for dinners to be cut in half for pastas and rice, and fresh veg with every meal if possible.

The exercise is done twice a week at a gym with additional exercises at home every day.

Tune in every weekday morning 7am – 9am for the latest updates. More Than Just Radio

The Mike Fisher weight loss challenge

I  have been made a challenge to loose weight. I admit that I am a bit overweight and have got proof of that now. I went to my local Boots the Chemist and weighed myself.

My current weigth is 97.5 kg and my aim is to loose at least 500 g a week. I will be doing a combination of diet changes and regular exercise.
I will be keeping everyone updated on this blog as well as during my shows starting today on Mike in the Morning.

If you have any advice for me please let me know mike.fisher@mtjr.co.uk

Mike in the Morning Update

As from 30th June 2009 the show has a new sponsor.

The Golden Lion pub in Southend-on-Sea will be the main sponsor throughout the rest of 2009. As part of this deal More Than Just Radio will be holding regular fundraising events at the pub in aid of the Starlight Childrens Foundation once a month on the last friday of the month. Several of the MTJR dj’s will make regular appearances at the venue and there are plans to do a weekly live show from the Golden Lion on a sunday afternoon.

I am very happy for the show to be sponsored by such a good venue and my thanks go out to all the staff and the owner of the pub.

This was the day I heard about the death of Michael Jackson. Eventhough I hadn’t really listened to his music it still came as a shock.
My favourite MJ era must be when "Off The Wall" was released and the follow up "Thriller". I remember tuning into a pirate station in Brussels and listening to the full "Thriller" album being played non-stop.

MJ will be missed, his music will always be there, RIP

Rock Avalanche will return

After much deliberation I have decided that the time is right to bring Rock Avalanche back to More Than Just Radio.

Rock Avalanche was the first show I presented on internet radio but has been on hiatus for the best part of a year. I decided to bring it back as there is not enough rock on the radio in general. The plan is to have an evening on MTJR fully dedicated to rock.

The show will feature the best in new rock releases, classic tracks, and the return of the MTJR Moshpit. In collaboration with Chris Munday’s Sideways with a Badger there will be a chance to work out what a song is in Backtracks where part of a song is played backwards and you have to guess what the song is.
I will also bring you news of upcoming gigs and forthcoming album/single releases.

No specific start date an time has been decided as yet, but it will be in the next few weeks.
